Тело светог Саве беше сахрањено у манастиру Милешеви. У време турске тираније народ српски скупљаше се над моштима свога светитеља, да тражи утехе и лека. Бојећи се, да се из тога места не дигне буна на Турке, Синан-паша београдски нареди те се мошти Савине пренесу у Београд, и ту спале, на Врачару, 27. априла 1594. године. Но са спаљивањем моштију светитељевих обесни паша не спали светитеља, који оста жив пред престолом Божјим на небесима и у срцу свога народа на земљи (в. 14. јануар).
