El a fost nepotul de fiu al Sfintei Ludmila. Ca rege, el s-a nevoit întru Credinţa Creştină ca marii nevoitori cei de demult, întărind Ortodoxia în poporul lui. El păzea cu străşnicie ca nu cumva vreun nevinovat să fie asuprit de tribunale. Mare rîvnitor al Credinţei fiind şi iubitor de aproapele, Sfîntul Vatslav cumpăra copii de păgîni care erau vînduţi ca sclavi, îi boteza îndată şi îi creştea în Credinţa Creştină, El a tradus Evanghelia de la loan în limba cehă, şi a mutat sfintele moaşte ale Sfîntului Vitus şi ale Sfintei Ludmila, bunica lui, la Praga. Fratele lui, Boleslav, 1-a invitat la curtea lui în ospeţie, şi aşa 1-a ucis. Imediat după aceasta Boleslav a adus preoţi din Germania, poruncind ca slujbele să se ţină în latină. Sfîntul Vatslav a fost omorît pentru Hristos la anul 935, iar sfintele lui moaşte odihnesc la Praga.
