Pedro, hijo de Simeón, fue un gran admirador de san Juan de Rila. Ganó la independencia de la Iglesia búlgara de Constantinopla, y defendió la ortodoxia en Bulgaria contra los bogomiles. Murió en el 967 d. C., a los cincuenta y seis años de edad, tras una guerra fracasada contra los húngaros y los rusos.
