Sfîntul Meletie a fost minunat arhipastor de suflete în Biserica Crestina a veacului al doilea. Lucrînd cu dumnezeiasca îndemînare, el s-a straduit sa adune toate cartile Sfintelor Scripturi într-un singur codex. Cu blîndetea, evlavia si sfintenia vietii lui, el s-a nevoit sa restaureze pacea si linistea în Biserica din Laodiceea, care era tulburata de problema datei la care trebuie praznuita Slavita înviere a lui Hristos. în afara de aceasta, al a fost zid de aparare a Crestinismului contra tuturor idolatriilor pagîne.
