Die hl. Agnia lebte im 3. Jahrhundert. Sie wurde wegen ihrer Weigerung, den Sohn des Statthalters Sophronios zu heiraten, den Qualen unterworfen, während welcher sie durch viele Zeichen und Wunder 160 Ungläubige zu Christus bekehrte. Sie wurde deshalb in einen glühenden Ofen geworfen und starb zusammen mit den von ihr Bekehrten durch das Schwert (um 304).
